Its been a great week for Urban music. First a extremely successful award show for the MOBO’s at Wembley, London and it was followed by a successful show in Atlanta for the BET Hip Hop Awards.

Master Of Ceremonies T-Pain
The likes of Young Jeezy, Nas, Russell Simmons, LL Cool J, Ludacris, T.I., Swizz Beats, MC Lyte, Salt N Peppa, Ciara, T-Pain, Soulja and many many more all turned out.
The audience were given a surprise when T-Pain came out to host the show as in Katt Williams.

The show kicked off with Atlanta native T.I. who performed ”What’s Up, What’s Happening” and later teaming up with Swizz Beatz for “Swing Your Rag.” Nas showed off his lyrical skills with “Queens Get the Money” and “Hero,” while Young Jeezy gave a high-energy rendition of “Crazy World.” Plies was joined by Ne-Yo for “Who Hotter Than Me” and “Bust It Baby,” and Rick Ross treated the crowd to “Here I Am” with Nelly and Avery Storm.

The trailer for the Biggie Smalls biopic ‘Notorious’ was also shown during the ceremony.
Pharrelland Common impressed performing “Universal Mind Control” while T-Wayne provided a energetic performance with “Can’t Believe It” with Lil Wayne and “Chopped and Skrewed” with Ludacris.

Ice Cube rocked it with ”Why Me” and his classic “It Was a Good Day”. He got politically and urged everyone to ‘vote black’.
The awards also had a segment for the ladies of Hip Hop. A medley which featured MC Lyte, Yo-Yo, The Lady of Rage, Salt-n-Pepa and Spinderella.
Congrats to UK rapper Giggs who took away the award for Best UK Act
The legend that is Russell Simmons was presented with the ‘I AM HIP HOP’ Icon Award by another legend LL Cool J.
Salt-n-Pepa performed tracks like ”My Mic Sounds Nice,” “Shoop,” “Big Girls,” “Push It, and “Whatta Man” (which was dedicated to a Mr & Mrs Barack Obama, there was a photo montage of the presidential candidate and his wife!).

Bow Wow and Soulja Boy closed the show with “Marco Polo.”
Congratulations to BET and all its employees for a fabolous show. It was an extremely proud night for Hip Hop.
The BET Hip Hop Awards 2008 Premieres Thursday, October 23 at 8:00 P.M EST.
