WHO ARE POETIC PILGRIMAGE?

Poetic Pilgrimage are a progressive and poetic hip hop duo formed by Muneera Rashida and Sukina Abdul Noor in Bristol, 2002. Now based in London, the two aim to spread their “simple message of peace love and unity” through their interesting blend of old school hip hop, acid jazz, neo-soul and various African genres, including traditional Malian music and Afrobeat. They also reference their Jamaican heritage by using snippets of reggae, dancehall and dub. Live, their line-up varies from the two of them performing poetry acappella, to a full band which can include drums, bass guitar, electric guitar, piano and saxophone. They see themselves as part of a growing global hip hop movement embracing world music; in their words, “hip hop no longer belongs to America”.
