I stumbled upon this on youtube and thought I’d share this with you.

I’ve heard people talk to me about this documentary and how dope it was to see a Hip Hop documentary on the BBC back in ‘87.

Respect to Tim Westwood who made the documentary and conducted the interviews.

Bead Meaning Good focuses on the 1987 Hip Hop Scene in London in the year.

It has spotlights on artists like Run DMC, the Cookie Crew, Wee Papa Girls and London Posse. There’s also a focus on the DJ’s, breakers and beatboxers.

UK heads, look out for a young Trevor Nelson who also makes a cameo.

Earlier this week, Hip Hop lost yet another artist. UK rapper Derek Boland suffered a heart attack and passed away on the 16th Novemeber.

He started in the game as a DJ, rocking on then pirate station Kiss FM.

One of his first singles was “Rock The Beat”, which he co-produced.

In 1998 he reached number 16 in the UK pop charts with “Bad Young Brother”. He also produced for acts like the Cookie Crew and he wrote one track that I grew up listening to again and again in my house, “Anfield Rap”.

Hip Hop has lost a pioneer and my thoughts are with his friends and family.

MC Remedee aka Cookie Pryce aka legend (as I like to call her!) sat down with True School Stories to talk about Hip Hop and the Cookie Crew.

The Cookie Crew were one of the pioneer’s in UK Hip Hop. They had a top 5 hit back in the 1980’s! (I think it was in 1988 off the top of my head).
