50 Cent - ‘Jay Was A Mentor’
Jan 21
50 Cent has revealed that former mentor Jam Master Jay is the reason for his successful career.
The rap star who is currently promoting his documentary, ‘The Life And Death Of Jam Master Jay’ told New York Daily News that the RUN DMC DJ showed him how to make music.
Before being signed to Interscope and Columbia, 50 Cent struggled to get a deal. It was Jam Master Jay who signed the young Curtis Jackson and taught him how to write choruses and how to construct a song.

“Jay was a mentor. He’s the first person I went into the studio with (having) the intention of producing a song for an album, which was never released because Jay’s touring schedule was so hectic he wasn’t able to focus on it. After Jay, I went to Columbia Records, but that didn’t work… Columbia Records was too scared to even talk to me. So I learned to market myself, like Jay had done. A lot of the major labels and companies were ignoring me because they were only looking at my street life. It makes me rub it in now. Right in their faces. I want to go into their offices and say, ‘I remember you. Didn’t they fire you yet?’”
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation has revealed that the legendary group Run-DMC are to be included in this year’s class of inductees.
The group created by Joseph “Rev Run” Simmons, Darryl “D.M.C.” McDaniels, and DJ, the late Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell.
The Hip Hop group will be inducted alongside the likes of Metallica, Jeff Beff and Bobby Womack.
Joe Peresman, the President of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation said
“This year’s class of inductees truly represents what the Hall of Fame is all about. From classic artists that began their careers in the 50’s and 60’s to those that have defined the modern sound of rock and roll. These artists demonstrate the rich diversity of rock and roll itself. We are proud to honor these artists and celebrate their contribution to rock and roll’s place in our culture.”
The 2009 inductees were chosen by the 600 voters of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation. Artists are eligible for inclusion 25 years after their first recording is released.

Run-DMC are the second Hip Hop act to be inducted, following Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five.
The trio announced themselves to the world in 1983 and were the first Hip Hop group to sign a historic sneaker deal with Adidas, the first rap act to appear on Rolling Stones and to make a video appearance on MTV.
This year’s ceremony will be unique because it will be the first to be open to the public.
General sale tickets will be made available on Ticketmaster from January 26.

The New York Daily News is reporting that Ronald (Tinard) Washington, the suspect in the killing of Hip Hop Legend Jam Master Jay, will serve 17 years for robberies.

The prosectors wanted to a more severe sentence for Washington because he’s a factor in the unsolved murder case of Jam Master Jay but the Federal Judge declined to consider the murder.
“One might think if it was such an overwhelming [murder] case, someone would have prosecuted him, instead of hanging a murder on a string of robberies with a BBgun”

Jam Master Jay was shot dead outside his music studio in 2002. Washington’s defense lawyer said
“If the government had a case, they’d bring it,” Kellman said. “The reality is, they have no idea who [killed Jam Master Jay].”
